We created Whurk to be the kind of magazine that we always wanted to read ourselves: insightful stories, gorgeous design, sharp, witty, and fun. Back when we started in 2013, it was just the two of us and a dream. The team has grown a lot since then, but the goal remains the same: highlight the amazing creative work coming out of Virginia and, in the process, build connections between the many arts communities throughout the Commonwealth.
The thing that keeps us going is the overwhelmingly positive response to what we're doing. We hope that when you read Whurk, it's like a breath of fresh air. Our editorial stance is exclusively local and we root for the underdog. You won't find reviews of Hollywood blockbusters or boring filler, only the weird, quirky, up-and-coming, and unbelievably compelling art of Virginia.
